Oakland Zoo

Friday, Riley and I are off to Grammy and Papa's house for a couple of weeks. I though I'd give you a new blog to enjoy until we get there. Who am I kidding? Here's a new blog until.... the next blog... but hey, give me a break, I'm trying to start a new business! More on that later. Once my site is up and running, I'll be sure to share it.

Well, we tried to go to Fairyland last Wednesday, on a gorgeous day during spring break, and they were CLOSED. Can you believe how much $$ they lost? In the 5 minutes we stood, gawking at the locked gates, there were at least 15 other people who walked up, jaws dropped. So we went to the Oakland Zoo. And glad we did... what a gorgeous zoo! They even have elephants (a SUPER-rare occurrence in zoos today). Leads me to wonder about their real conservation efforts... they actually had 4 or 5 elephants in what seemed to be a rather small space. In fact, many of their exhibits seemed way overcrowded. Was nice for the visitors, because there were a lot of animals, but.... don't get me started.... I digress..... We had the best day ever, the two of us!!

We rode the tram. And it was such a special moment... We got about halfway to the top, and she leaned into me and whispered, "Mommy, it's so nice and quiet up here. I'm so happy to be here alone with you." OMG, I almost melted. That's the little girl I am raising! Soooo good. I squeezed her till she grunted. Really. For a long time. And still, it wasn't long enough.

Then we saw this lady.

Even better, they have a mini amusement park right outside of the zoo gates, with about 10 little rides (much like Kiddieland [oh, I guess now they call it 'Raccoon Lagoon'... whatever!!] at Idlewild in Ligonier, where I grew up). Awesome.

Oh! This was the place where she had her very first Roller Coaster ride! Unfortunately, I didn't get photos of that, since she's too short to go alone, and we were there alone!! Bummer.

To end with, here is a really old photo strip Riley and I did at the mall. It's starting to fade, so I scanned it before it's gone forever! This was another great day we had together. Yeeeeah, we have those once in a while.
